Renewable energy producers, financiers and investors attend the Solar Energy Bucharest Summit

SOLAR ENERGY BUCHAREST SUMMIT is this year's first major event dedicated to investors, consumers and solution providers in the field of solar energy. It will take place on Friday 28 October 2022 in Bucharest at Radisson Blu and will open its doors to 150 of the biggest players in the market. With a unique format, of expo-conferenceThe event brings to the same table the players who will decide the course of the investments of more than 3 billion euro, planned for the next 7 years in Romania.

Romania's promise for 2030

Romania is currently a location with high investment potential. In a context where all European Union countries have installed large production capacities, our country is far behind its promises. Specifically, by 2030, Romania must have an installed capacity of 7000 MW, while in 2022, statistics show 1400 MW installed. Moreover, Romania has only 0.02% of its territory occupied by photovoltaic panels installed, compared to the total surface area, while in Italy this percentage is 0.2%, with an installed capacity of 22,000 MW, 10 times more than Romania.

The need for rapid development of renewable energy generation capacity has also led to attractive financial incentives for producers. For the installation of photovoltaic panels, companies could benefit from non-reimbursable support of €750,000/MW for installed capacities between 0.2 MW (exclusive) and 1 MW (inclusive) and €425,000/MW for installed capacities above 1 MW.

This puts pressure on the authorities to create the investment context, but also on companies to attract funding and develop PV projects. The need for information, but also for reliable suppliers is still one of the problems faced by investors in the field, and the Solar Energy Bucharest Summit is the starting point in a debate that aims to present both the opportunities and the barriers that stand in the way of the most dynamic investment sector in our country at the moment.

Increased interest in installing solar panels

Interest in installing solar panels is high from local investors looking to buy or lease dozens of hectares of land near power lines for easy connection to the national power system and to obtain the necessary permits. They often sell projects at the RBT (ready to build) stage to large international specialised companies ready to invest tens or even hundreds of millions of euros in Romania. Multinationals are now looking very closely at the Romanian market, given the gap in solar plant stock compared to other markets.

On the other hand there are local industrial companies, retailers or agribusiness players looking to install solar panels to reduce their energy costs. Any factory or retail chain is now evaluating the possibility of becoming an energy producer, not just a consumer, in the face of exploding energy prices.

In the construction of solar panel installations are involved: solar panel suppliers, of which 95% are from China, manufacturers of transformer and inverter installations, automation solutions, specialised software as well as local construction companies. An investor can either use an integrator to supply the turnkey installation or take care of the project development directly.

The banks, consultancy and project companies, law firms and specialists in European funds are also involved.

Who is attending the Solar Energy Bucharest Summit?

On 28 OctoberThe Radisson Blu will be attended by representatives of policy makers (Ministry of Energy), regulators (ANRE), investors, financiers, PV panel manufacturers, related solution providers, retailers, consumers, land owners and project developers. The event is supported by PATRES (Employers' Organisation of Energy Producers from Renewable Sources in Romania), an organisation that includes about 100 energy producers with installed capacities between 1 and 500 MW. On this occasion, participants will be able to connect with future business partners, learn about sources of financing and find out about the most important legislative issues in this field. The first part of the event is in conference format and aims to debate the most important topics, while the second part is dedicated to business matching sessions at exhibitors' stands.

Challenges for renewable energy producers

Organised in 4 panels, the debate will focus on topics of interest to participants: legislation and regulations, project financing, market statistics and business cases. One of the topics the organisers will be discussing is the "duck curve" effect, specifically how storage technology will be used to maintain the price of renewable energy.

SOLAR ENERGY BUCHAREST SUMMIT is organised by Creative Communication, a communication and event planning agency with over 10 years of experience in the organisation of business events.
